A Successful Strategy:  Neurological Impress Reading

One of the strategies that I implemented this year was Neurological Impress Reading.  This is used to help with reading fluency, and I found it extremely effective with my dyslexic student.  In this strategy, the teacher does paired reading with the student where the teacher reads slightly faster and louder than the student.  This is such a simple, but effective strategy, that I found myself using it with other students after my ILP was completed.  Usually, reading is a chore for my student, but after I used the method with her, I was shocked that she actually enjoyed it and wanted to do it again.  Her mother observed our lesson, and she also thought that it was effective and something that she was going to implement at home.  I was able to use this later, with an energetic first-grade student who didn't have the patience for sounding out words while reading.  He and his mother were butting heads with reading.  I was able to use the method with them, and her son said he really liked it and it helped him to read faster and feel like a better reader.  He actually wanted to read more even though it was time to leave!  This is a strategy that I will definitely be using in the future.

"Carrie has worked incredibly hard this year.  She goes out of her way to service her families
by taking time to really understand their learning styles and family dynamics. Carrie is an asset
to any team as she is compassionate, dependable, selfless, and hard-working. I have been
blessed to work with Carrie this year."
